Peter Thompson is a Director of Apt Ventures Pty Ltd and is the principal for the company. Peter Thompson has over 20 years experience in facilitating individual and organisational learning and development. He has worked in and consulted to the public sector and major organisations both in Australia and overseas. He is a personal demonstration of learning and adapting to changing work environments. His extensive background and unique combination of developed skills and talents qualify him as an invaluable resource for any organisation which values learning as a driving force for development and growth, particularly in an environment of change. An accurate description of Peter is a Generalist. That is, he is someone who has achieved a rare set of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills. Fred Nickols (2000) defines a generalist as a person who has not only mastered but also integrated more than one specialty. A generalist's practice is an expanded one by virtue of synthesis or integration, not mere addition. Peter's early studies were in science and mathematics. Later, in developing his knowledge and skills in order to adapt his business to changing times he has acquired and demonstrated expertise in the following areas: writing, editing, desktop publishing, technical illustration, database programming. In 1990 he turned his attention to adult learning and extensively trained in the most advanced techniques available. As well as training in the Educational Applications of Generative Learning, he continued to certify as a Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (through the International NLP Trainers Association). An early opportunity to apply this learning came when Peter was contracted to Optus as a Principal Trainer on a team responsible for the initial Customer Service training. He ensured that interpersonal skills and facility with the technology were integrated into an enjoyable program with clearly defined behavioural outcomes. This project revolutionised the nature of the customer service culture in Australia. Increasingly Peter has turned his attention to helping people learn to "run their own brain". His exceptionally strong background in behavioural technologies and his Generalist knowledge and skills, enable him to help people and organisations evolve rapidly to meet the challenges which result from the extent and rate of change which pervades the modern culture. Because of his background he works comfortably with people with diverse experiences and goals. The principal focus of his work now is in two main areas: helping individuals create the necessary changes in themselves so that they can achieve their desired outcome; and coaching and training to help business owners and managers develop the essential cross-disciplinary knowledge and skills which are essential for success in today's business environment. Peter also delivers trainings in Neuro-Linguistic Programming through his own and allied organisations. With a continuing interest in stage skills and with a background that also includes professional performance, Peter's presentation is dynamic, enthusiastic and engaging. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of NSW, a Diploma in Education, a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, accreditation to administer and deliver the Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator, Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, and accreditation in the Educational Applications of Generative Learning.
